Bevan Livingston
Distribution Trainee of the Year
“One of those trainees who comes along once in a blue moon.”
That’s how one of Bevan Livingston’s trainers – Cameron Childerhouse – describes him.
Bevan, a trainee line mechanic with Downer Hawera since 2019, is currently studying towards a NZ Certificate in Electricity Supply (Line Mechanic Distribution) Level 4, and is known for keeping his trainers on their toes.
Bevan has been nominated for the Orion-sponsored Distribution Trainee of the Year category of the Connexis Industry Excellence Awards by iSkills trainee coordinator Anthea Mallasch who says Bevan studies hard and is always willing to challenge his trainers to make sure he has a complete understanding of course content and how it applies on the job in different scenarios.
Anthea describes Bevan as extremely driven with a strong work ethic and great communication skills. “Bevan is always the first to take up any opportunity that comes his way”.
“He proactively seeks out work that allows him to utilise his knowledge,” says Anthea adding that Bevan enjoys working as part of a team so he’s able to test his theories and solutions against his role models.
With that, she says, he also demonstrates great leadership, always willing to help other trainees either in the field or in the training room.
“He’s an asset to Downer Hawera and is going to go far.”
The Connexis Industry Excellence Awards are a recognition of the hard work, dedication and expertise it takes to succeed in the industry. They will be held online on Monday 6 December from 7pm. They will include a keynote speech by Minister for Infrastructure and Deputy Prime Minister Hon Grant Robertson and will be hosted by broadcaster Jason Pine.
