Seth Batchelor
Distribution Trainee of the Year finalist
“Mr Positive” Seth Batchelor, an apprentice electrician at Unison Contracting Services in Hastings, puts his focus on health and safety with literally life-saving results, according to his nomination for the 2021 Connexis Industry Excellence Awards.
A finalist for “Distribution Trainee of the Year”, sponsored by Orion, Seth was put forward for an award by Unison Performance Manager Luke Gleeson.
Luke describes Seth as an exceptional team member who is reliable, hardworking and “always keen to take on whatever challenge is presented to him.”
“Seth’s attitude is what makes him stand out. Nothing is ever too much trouble…[and] he is very enthusiastic to learn.”
Luke adds that it was Seth’s courage, initiative and quick thinking that saved a colleague from a potentially fatal electrocution in the early days of his training.
Since then Seth joined the Health and Safety Team and has led a number of initiatives to respond to health and safety concerns within the business.
Seth says his industry training, which he is on track to complete within four years, has armed him with a long list of new skills and knowledge from specific electrical training to broader leadership capabilities.
He says he loves the opportunities his job affords him to learn and be challenged, and he hopes to work his way up to a Team Leader position.
