The future of infrastructure industry training in New Zealand is in good hands according to both trainees and employers.

Employer satisfaction ratings for Connexis have increased to 96%, with trainee satisfaction at 95%, based on Connexis’ 2024 annual survey.

Connexis Executive Director Kaarin Gaukrodger says the results reflect Connexis’ commitment to working closely with employers and trainees to ensure programmes and delivery are fit-for-purpose and aligned with industry demand.

“It is very pleasing to see a high level of satisfaction among both employers and trainees for 2024. As an organisation we pride ourselves in being responsive to feedback from our training customers, and proactive in addressing any issues that come up.

“There is obviously always room for improvement but the figures from this most recent survey indicate we are on the right path. It provides incentive for our team to keep refining and improving our products and services, and to keep listening to our infrastructure customers about how we can best meet their training needs.”

The employer satisfaction rating is up from 89% in 2023, with an increase also recorded in the overall employer Net Promoter Score (NPS) which was 27 in 2024, compared to 12 in 2023.

Net Promoter Score (NPS) is a metric used to measure customer loyalty and satisfaction by asking customers how likely they are to recommend an organisation’s products or services to others.

It was also pleasing to note that the increase in employer satisfaction was represented across all Connexis sectors represented in the survey (Civil, Energy, Telco, Water).

Other key figures from the employer survey respondents are:

  • 90% are satisfied or very satisfied that Connexis meets business needs, up from 75% in 2023
  • Connexis contact people, assessment process and training resources were all rated highly, with between 81% and 89% selecting “satisfied” or “very satisfied”; an all-time high for all three categories.

Some feedback comments from employer survey respondents include:

“Connexis programmes are well-suited to our industry. The support is excellent, and the team is successfully achieving their qualifications.” (Civil infrastructure, Waikato/BOP)

“[Connexis] supports the industry perfectly, provides great qualifications, helps our staff to learn and develop, grow on the job, and feel successful with the completion of qualifications.” (Civil infrastructure, South)

“Very straightforward and relevant, definitely happy with the overall service.” (Water,

Waikato/BOP)

Among Connexis trainees and apprentices 94% responded positively to whether it was easy to gain the skills and knowledge needed to achieve their training goals, while 94.8% indicated they were satisfied overall with their experience at Connexis.

“I’d also like to say a huge thank you to all the employers and trainees who took the time out to complete our satisfaction survey. The feedback and insights it gives us as an organisation are invaluable and help us provide better products and service to our infrastructure industry. We appreciate them taking the time,” Gaukrodger says.
