These qualifications are fully endorsed by the New Zealand Roadmarkers Federation Inc, and are aligned with industry standards in materials handling and traffic control requirements of the NZ Transport Agency and local government.

National Certificate in Roadmarking (Assistant)

Please note: this qualification is currently under review and will be subject to change. This is the recommended qualification for people working as an assistant in a roadmarking crew.

It covers basic knowledge of roadmarking materials, plant and processes, communication, health and safety, approved handler requirements of the HSNO Act 1996, class 1 driver licence, knowledge and practice for carriage of dangerous goods, responses to spillage, leakage or loss of load, response to fire incidents and Traffic Control (TC) for level 1 roads.

Skills for piloting, raised pavement markers and thermoplastics and transport can also be covered, if required. 

People who achieve this qualification may wish to progress to the Level 3 qualification for Roadmarking Operator.


National Certificate in Roadmarking (Operator)

Please note: this qualification is currently under review and will be subject to change. This qualification is ideal for skilled operators involved in carrying out remark work using an A-type or B-type marker.

Skills covered include remarking, knowledge of hazardous substances, simple calculations, maintenance of records, locating setting out and managing sites, checks and maintenance of plant and equipment, quality assurance, inspection and sampling, class 1 driver licence with dangerous goods endorsement, and Traffic Controller (TC) and Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) for low volume and level 1 roads.

The qualification is completed with specialist skills for either A-type or B-type marker.

Skills for raised pavement markers, transport and temporary traffic management on level 2 and 3 roads can also be included, if required.


National Certificate in Roadmarking (Senior Operator)

Please note: this qualification is currently under review and will be subject to change.This qualification recognises the skills required by senior operators involved in marking and remarking work using an A-type or B-type applicator.

It covers knowledge of materials processes and specifications for complex roadmarking work, roadmarking maps and plans, complex calculations and site set out, supervision and management of projects, and sustainable environmental management practices.

The qualification is completed with specialist skills for either long life products or paint marking.

Additional skills for raised pavement markers, transport and temporary traffic management on level 2 and 3 roads can also be covered, if required.


National Certificate in Infrastructure Works Supervision

This qualification has expired and is no longer open for enrolments.

It will be replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Site Supervision), which will be available at the end of 2017.
