Cable Jointer

We are making some further changes to our Level 3 and 4 Cable Jointer programmes and we'd like your feedback
Following industry consultation, we are making some further changes to the programmes leading to our Level 3 and 4 Cable Jointer qualifications.

These changes will ensure that the programmes continue to meet industry needs effectively, and that qualifications are achievable and remain fit for purpose.
Further details are available here.

New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply High Voltage (with an optional strand of up to 33kV) - Level 4
210-245 credits
NZQA Ref: 2227

The NEW pathway to professional registration as a Cable Jointer.

This Level 4 New Zealand Certificate covers the practical skills and experience for cable jointers, jointing cables up to and including 11kV. It is a mandatory requirement for registration as a Cable Jointer with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB).

This qualification replaces the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Cable Jointer - High Voltage) Level 4 (NZQA Ref: 0870). It also has unit standards previously included in the Level 2 Introductory and Level 3 Cable Jointer qualifications embedded, meaning that all of the required competencies for cable jointers are now covered in one qualification.

This qualification is ideal for people starting out in their career as a cable jointer or those who are working in other roles in the industry (such as line mechanics) who are looking to change their career path.

Skills covered
  • Applying industry standards and procedures to cable jointing work
  • Theory, codes and legislation for cable jointing
  • Communication
  • Health and safety
  • Testing procedures
An additional optional strand can be selected for cable jointing on power cables of 22kV up to and including 33kV

This qualification will take around 24-30 months to complete, and is mainly achieved on-job.
