Temporary traffic management (TTM)

TTM INDUSTRY CHANGES

In 2023 New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi released the New Zealand Guide to Temporary Traffic Management. This has prompted a change to temporary traffic management training and will see the release of several new credentials over the next year or so.

Connexis has the following micro-credential training programme available, with more to follow once they have been developed:

To enrol, please contact one of our Customer Service Account Managers who will guide you through the process.

INTERIM TRANSITION PHASE

New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi will cease administration and registration of TTM warrants where there is an identical unit standard offering from 1 November 2024. This is an interim transition phase that will simplify the Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (CoPTTM) training system as part of the transition to the industry-led TTM Credentials Framework.

UNIT STANDARDS AVAILABLE

Check out which unit standards are available for Connexis registered assessors to train and assess against.

If you are unsure of who is registered with Connexis as an assessor for these unit standards, please contact quality@connexis.org.nz and we can advise who is registered in your area.

Training and assessment against these unit standards is an arrangement between the company and the assessor directly, this is not arranged by Connexis.

UNIT STANDARD RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Existing TTM warrants gained up to and including 31 October 2024, remain valid and recognised and stay on the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi TTM warranted workers database.

Some learners may wish to recognise their warrants against the unit standards by applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This simply recognises that the TTM specialist already has met the skills and knowledge required by the unit standards.

Connexis, as a registered NZQA provider, has developed a process for people that hold a NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi warrant to be recognised and have the associated unit standard reported.

If a learner holds a current or no later than 12 months expired warrant, the unit standard can be requested by completing the TTM Warrant RPL Application Form and submitting it to quality@connexis.org.nz.

Note: This process is not available for the legacy warrants (TC, L1 or L2/3 STMS) as these are not seen as equivalent to the unit standards.

If multiple TTM unit standards are held, the learner may be eligible to request the award of one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Micro-credential in Traffic Management Operative (Level 3) NZQA Ref #4413
  • Micro-credential in Site Traffic Management Specialist non-practising (Level 3) NZQA Ref #4414
  • New Zealand Certificate in Temporary Traffic Worksite Management (Level 3) NZQA Ref #4190

Please see the Request for Qualification Award - TTM Form for more information.
