
Congratulations to Northland’s Top Energy who have won the Annual Connection line mechanic competition two years in a row!
The same team that won in Te Awamutu in 2024 returned to Annual Connection 2025 in Christchurch to triumph again. Congratulations to: Team foreman Simon Bayliss, Michael Kava, Lance Kahotea, trainee Michael Mitchell and team manager Karl Wilson.
On their path to victory the Top Energy team took out the Busck Pole Installation, The Wagner Pole Installation, and the Underground Cable Install. The team also won the Dougie Award for best team spirit, while Simon Bayliss won the Connexis Leadership Award.
Huge congratulations too to runners up Omexom from Auckland, and third place winners The Lines Company from Te Kuiti.

In the 2025 Annual Connection cable jointer competition Waipā Networks’ Zak Ramsey took out first place, improving beautifully on his third place in 2024. Tyler Simmonds from Omexom was placed second with Joseph Natoli from Alpine Energy in third.
To take out the top spot Zak won the HV Indoor Termination, HV Outdoor Termination, Live LV Jointing and Pit Rescue events.
This year’s Annual Connection also included two brand new competitions for trainees: The Trainee Cable Jointer competition won by Tia Fasi from EA Networks in Ashburton, and the Supply Industry Electrical Apprentice won by Garth McGuigan from Mainpower
